This is a species that my business partner and I discussed. Many advantages including capability to live and breed in fresh and salt water. Although it is a predator it can be fed quite a range of food. We shelved the idea though due to OH&S issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bull_shark

We need to try and enhance the population of any shark that can enter estuary waters or rivers - they are rare species in Australia - the crocs tend to eat them. Encouraging the species by having them in AP systems makes sense - not only would they be prodigious producers of ammonia (snicker) but those nosy arsehole neighbours who decide because you have a greenhouse you must be growing dope can become instant and unfindable fish food.

GREAT! i can add a shark tank to all the things i want but can't afford! be nothing cooler to tell people to "stay away from the water. think shes hungry again, if too many neighbours go missing i might be in trouble!" i would feed it mice and rats once it gets big enough. mmm tasty fresh fish and chips with home grown flake... safety issues could be solved with a steel grate to stop hands going where they are not suppose to. the tank would have to be maintenance free however a lot of sharks are less aggressive after a good feed. love to see someone try this! chain mail gloves at all times

You could lose a missus by having sharks in the backyard AP - she is sure to be upset by the idea. But she'd have a GREAT Epitaph... "Something she disagreed with ATE her!!!"

I wanted a big enough tank to justify buying myself a canoe and claiming it on tax with the fish species being trout. We then up-scaled the system design for the same number of fish using Bull Sharks grown to 7'. That way I could justify a longship: http://vikinglongship.wordpress.com/page/2/

I recently upscaled my IBC system a little... mainly so I could update my fish catching gear. You guys have lost your minds... or the system is cycling too well, and you have nothing to tinker about... That said... While you might get 'em to breed, don't they require colder water than the general AP set up? T[url]he Mirage[/url] has to keep replacing its baby sharks... they really prefer colder water than the rest of the tropicals... but Steve liked the idea of 'em... and so-- I've been toying with the idea of a chiller... My state has five varieties of native trout, but they all require cold water. http://www.aa-fishing.com/nv/nevada-trout-fishing.html I have never tried cutthroat trout, as I don't fish, myself... but if it is a trout, I'll assume the 'earthy' flavor remains... But the limit is still 78 F, and even if they'll tolerate the turbidity, I'd need to keep the water temp lower than 80F... When temps hit the 120's, and they do... And sinking my tank at all means getting through three feet of clay and kaliche [natural cement compressed when Vegas was an inland sea...] that even with a jackhammer means hours of labor... So, my first idea was a kind of 'tower of pvc ends' cut in half... but the other concept was mentioned... running soft hose through a refrigerator... After seeing TCL's duck pond/stream... I also considered trenching around the yard, say 2' w x 3' d, and my back yard's roughly 50' x 70'-- Trenchers are rentable... dropping in the pond liner, and using what I pull our of the trenches to insulate my Sumps and GB's above ground. A girl's gotta have a dream, ya know?

Ive been watching the river monsters show on the ABC2 basically a show about river fish that can eat you or least seriously damage you. Lots of cool huge fish.
