I put some larger SP (30) ranging from 80mm to about 260mm in with my fingerlings (50) of about 40mm to 60 mm and now I have no fingerlings left and no evidence they where ever there!!!! :cussing: :banghead:

So larger SP will eat smaller SP.

Am going to make a IBC system for fingerlings and get some more when I can.

I doubt very much that SP from 80mm to about 260mm... could fit fingerlings about 40mm to 60 mm ... in their mouths....

Silver Perch have small mouths... and aren't generally known to be cannaballistic.... although any bigger fish, will eat a smaller fish... or dead fish.... if they're hungry....

Perhaps you weren't feeding correctly....

Yeah I have had several reports this year from people who have lost their small Silvers (30-40mm) to larger Silver Perch. I think they really need to be at least 80mm to be safe putting them in with the larger ones. I even had a bloke pick up some more Silvers yesterday as his last lot all got eaten by his Koi !!!

Yeah maybe... but a 700gm+ SP... is bigger than 260mm....

A 260mm SP.. is more like about 250-300gm....

But yep again... as Gavin says... I don't stock smaller than 70-80mm into a tank with bigger fish....

In fact... I don't usually stock anything smaller than 70-80mm... ever....

Well like I said I am going to make a separate tank for my fingerlings. When I have it up and running will give Gavin a call and see what he has.

I have a 200L aquarium in the shed that I use to beef up the little ones. Easy to heat so you can get them growing quickly

Thanks for the thread. I have wondering if I should put some more fingerlings in now that my expansion is done... I guess I won't

Keep them in a floating basket for a while. Cheap and easy to make. :thumbleft: ...or buy yearlings.
