This has just become habit, I say "I will be growing fish and vegetables in my greenhouse". My wife insists that you "raise" fish, not "grow" fish I say the fish are for food production, like vegetables they start small, you make sure they get what they need, then they grow big and you eat them! hence "grow fish" If they were ornamental then I would use the term "raise" fish Which term do you use? -Stevo |

Stevo, you haven't been married very long, have you? Agree with your wife. This one isn't worth the arguement! I am raising tilapia fry to then grow them out! Per Websters: Raise is to grow or breed, care for, or promote the growth of: to raise corn; to raise prizewinning terriers. Their definition of 'grow' is mostly about getting bigger. |

Their definition of 'grow' is mostly about getting bigger. Does this mean his wife is wrong? hehe? I say "growing" in relation to what is being done here. Cheers Axl |

As Webster's, I would raise either animals or plants. I would only grow plants. The wife is always right. |

Me, I say grow plants and rear fish... Definitions of rear: *bring up; "raise a family"; "bring up children" *To feed and grow in a natural or artificial environment. |
