I have a pretty standard IBC set up. The plants are in and growing nicely, water siphoning properly, nice balanced pH, etc. Tried to introduce about 20 or so goldfish into the tank yesterday and within about 15 mins or so they were dead.

Is it just shock being put into such a large tank and lots of water movement? These were the last fish the store had prior to their shipment this week so maybe these were just "bottom of the barrel" type fish?

Any suggestions?

How did you introduce them?
I started mine with gold fish and they were very tough and pooped like there was no tomorrow. They did eventually die but after about 8mths with silverperch in amongst them

A typical method of introducing new fish includes floating the bag in the new water for an hour or so to equalise the temperatures, then adding a bit of new water to their bag to introduce them to different pH etc. than adding a bit more every half hour for a few hours, then opening the bag and letting them find their way out by themselves when they are ready.

If the people that sold you the fish didn't tell you that stuff, they should have.

It's unlikely that anything toxic in your system would kill them right away unless you accidentally filled the fish tank with toxic waste instead of water.

It sucks when fish die :support:

What part of Iowa are you in? Interested in sharing ideas and advice from someone in Des Moines?

Yes, it does suck when fish die...Thanks.

I have the goldfish problem solved for now. They will most likely end up food for my incoming perch, bass and bluegills!

Thanks for the help!
