Has anyone tried them in an AP. My brother catches and releases a lot so am wondering if it's worth a look

Not worth it, and from what I believe illegal to bring them home live, even when they are legal size.

I think it's illegal, but not 100% sure (i.e. don't be posting everywhere about it until you know)

Also, very hard to feed 'em as they will not take to pellets easily, if at all. Still, there have been a couple of memebers convert wild caught redfin to pellets, so it may be possible.

But there's more :D - they need a high level of dissolved oxygen - they're real prima donnas about that.

Finally, to really depress you, they're very slow growers. A 1kg+ black bream can be 30 years old.

Having said all that, I had some that I got from Challenger TAFE, and they were a nice looking fish with different character traits to the silver perch they were in with.
