Hi all!

I'm just trying to research what fish are feasible in Melbourne Australia. From what I can tell I might be limited to trout and silver perch and that's it.

What else would survive our area without external heating?

I'd consider maron/fresh water cray, but not sure where u can buy...

Forget Bass... too slow growing...

Forget Golden Perch..... in tanks... just too unreliable... and unsucessful

Anyone tried catfish or cod? What are they like to raise and most importantly, eat?

Both great eating. Have had catfish for 18 months and I reckon another summer before they get to eating size. Cod grow very quickly but in my limited experience are very canabalistic until they grow a bit. Cod should be kept in crowded conditions to stop this canabolism apparently

Forget about Marron sorry, I think you guys can get redclaw over that way thou.

Most crustaceans like yabbies and the above mentioned are really only additions to AP. You cant stock them dense enough to make it worth being a sole venture.

I've got cod and catfish in together. They've been in since December. Doing well although there growth rate slows over winter. Can't comment on the taste yet. Your welcome to come and have a look. I purchased the cod from Glenwaters.

How hard are they to keep? Everything ive read say catfish are escape artists, and Cod just eat everything?

Dont think anything would try to eat a catfish as they have spines :D
