How many silvers would be safe for a 1000l Aquaponics setup? I'm looking at getting some and just wasn't sure how many would be happy in that space. Thanks |

Not a matter of size of your fish tank.. there are limitations.... But more directly a matter of your available filtration capacity.... how many grow beds do you have and what size are they??? |

Hi Jonesy Mate, it's the wrong question. The question you need to ask is "what weight of fish can I have with this much filtration (growbed) volume and this frequency of water turnover?" So, what you need to tell us is what volume of filtration you have, how often you turnover the water in the tank (i.e. what is the capacity of your pump) and how mature your system is - then we can provide a useful answer that will not lead you into problem territory. You could put 100 fish into your 1,000L but they'd be dead in a week if you don't have much filtration (growbed) volume and good water turnover. Put in only 50 and they're still going to be dead, it'll just take a little longer. And so on .... |

Righto thanks guys I'll have to look at the pump tonight after work. I sent an email already asking for 25 or so, still just asking around and learning. It is a brand new system been running for about a month I have put a few goldfish I had here in there and they are doing fine I'll put some more info up here when I get hold of it Thanks |

Yea I thought 25 would be a good number to start with and learn as I go. I have a fairly good idea about water chemistry and stuff like that cos I have built reef tanks and heaps of tropical freshwater tanks so I hopefully I can get it all started pretty smoothly... Fingers crossed

Got any pic's Jonesy? Its probably worth mentioning that we here recomend a stock density of around 25 fish per 500L of filtration, thats assuming you grow them out to around 500g. I did the math on your GB and its about 1200L of filtration so you will have the capacity to increase your stock level a bit down the track. 25 will be a good comfortable number to start with. |
