Trying to decide on fish while my system cycles. There's a hatchery 20 miles away and they black crappie and bluegill available besides catfish and bass. I live in Alabama so my temps run from a short period of 30f in the Winter to nearly 100f in the Summer. So what do y'all recommend (I like to eat fish) and about how many for an IBC? Thanks. |

i'd go with mostly bluegill, and get a few crappie... i really like the taste of both white and black crappie (and "magnolia" crappie, a cross of the two) i've read of 1 person that was able to get them feed trained, most things i've read indicate that they are pretty difficult to train.. if they go ok with the bluegill, then it's an easier decision when it's time to restock |

The local hatchery has coppernosed bluegills which are supposed to be fast growing and take to feed well. |

Bluegill will eat a more omnivore diet as opposed to crappie which eat more fish and meat things. Id go with bluegill so I could feed them a more varied diet. |
