I need to know how much water approx 36 - 40 full size (average) tilapia will displace...

Some average fish sizes:

Thanks for your help!

Fish have roughly the same density as water. So the mass of the fish will equal the mass of the water. For example (and this is why I love the metric system), one 500g fish will displace 500cc or 0.5L. Forty fish of 500g will displace 20L.

I ask because I need to know how much water the fish will displace, so I can correct determine how much FT I need, and so I don't overflow my system when the fish are full grown.

I'm going to use 2x 50gal grow beds and am looking at a 150gal FT, but wanted to know how much water the fish will displace.

I should have more than enough room, but I just like to know.

Thanks!

Yeah, the water the fish displace is really a non issue. You will loose water to evaporation etc faster than the fish will grow to displace the water.

Also if you are running the tank so full that u would need to consider this, then you are probably running it way too full, or you are well overstocked for your tank size.
