so i was cleaning out my aquarium to convert it over to an indoor AP system and as i was doing it, i noticed last night a baby floating around. this morning i woke up and found 3 more. im not sure what they are but, the potential culprits are either 2 marbled mollies or a few glass catfish(they look more like the mollies but are clear as can be, like the cats), i had a water changing accident about 2 months ago and killed the glass cats and one of the mollies, however one mollie survived. im thinking it could only possibly be the remaining mollie but the weird thing is the one that died 2 months ago was the one that looked pregnant. is it possible that she had these 2 months ago, they survived the water change incident and im just now seeing them as im cleaning out all the objects in my aquarium? they are only about a 1/4 in long. most of the pics ive googled of mollie babies are all dark colored fish. im gonna raise them to find out what they are but anyone with any thoughts as to what they could be?

Would have thought the mollies would have been a lot more likely to breed than the glass cats ! |

Many moons ago when I first moved to Exmouth there was a spot called the Guppie pond which was just a water tank overflow at the base of the ranges . At some point someone introduced some Mollies and guppies into the resulting reed bed and they thrived , even thru Exmouth summers and near on drying events that frequently occured . The Mollies ended up in all imaginable colour variations including transparent . Thats not to say they are definately mollies but its not out of the question . |

You might be right, the more I read abt glass cat breeding, apparently not many reports of it actually happening. But its hard to say, now that I have them seperated and close to the glass they look just like the cats. |

Chillidude is right - mollies breed readily in aquariums, unlike glass catfish (Kryptopterus bicirrhiss), most of which are wild caught for the ornamental fish trade. Besides, the tail of the fry second from left is particularly live-bearer like, just like a gambusia (Gambusia holbrooki) or a guppy (Poecilia reticulata), or maybe even a molly (P. vivipara)! I don't know about mollies but some fish species only colour-up as they mature. My money is on them being mollies. |

Mollies about 4 days old. They'll start coloring at about two months. |

That's bad news, soul162. Fingers crossed for your two little survivors. |
