let me try again;
http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/docs/frr/frcr011/summary.php?0308

from the first part of the text:
It has been shown in FRDC project 94/075 that hybridising two species of freshwater crayfish, female Cherax rotundus x male Cherax albidus produces only male progeny

Yea this is fairly old Keith, 1994-97.

Its all to do with controlling over population of farm dams, which is the biggest restriction on growth versus time. An all male population keeps numbers down in turn sees growth rates increased.

yeah, i noticed the date.. lots of hybrid discussion of bluegill in the states... some folks think they get bigger, but quite a few recent studies show that they equal out after about 18 months,, i always thought it was to have higher population of males to keep the population under control..
