A question of combining barra & redclaw. I am in the process of building an IBC system with the GB's on top of the FT's, two IBC's joined by a large diameter pipe near bottom of two FT's. Using a single pump to get the water up to the GB's. Has anybody tried to have redclaw on the bottom of the FT's with a wire screen/mesh between them & the Barra above, for obvious reasons?

Never tried it, but would think it could work as long as any solids from the fish can get to the pump down the bottom with the redclaw

I have ran a few trials with this very concept....well, every concept I could ever think of in regards to seperating fish from crustacean.

If you are going to use 2 IBC's for FT's, you could seperate them with a plastic or stainless steel mesh (dont use fly wire or galv screen) at the connecting pipe and have your redclaw in one and the barra in the other. The mesh would have to be large enough to allow a good flow of solids even still you would have to set it up so it can be removed for cleaning.

Or - you could make a cage for them to live in that will sit on the bottom of the tank out of maybe plastic mesh around a stainless frame and this will seperate them from the fish but then you may run into problems feeding them.

I have designed what Ive called a "yabbie ball" and you should see them getting about this year some time.
