mine seem to be fixed on lamb heart and worms..........i'd like to introduce a little variety in their diet

they are definatly bottom feeders.

They seems to have no intrest in either native or trout pellets or goldfish flakes, even when they sink to the bottom.

might try the scrambled egg again.

Steve, maybe as a cheap alternative you could try what I refer to as "yabbies".... are often called "ghost shrimps" -"Thalasssinidean" is the right name, (so I've found out) and they're actually more related to lobsters.

Ghost Shrimp

Along the southern NSW coast there is an abundance of them in the tidal estuaries.... and from what I have read they should also be prevalent around Victoria....

Easiest way to get them... a "yabbie pump"... want to make one ... Make a Yabbie Pump

Talk to any old fisherman around your area... if there is anywhere where they are available then an hours work pumping will fill half fill a bucket.

As a live bait can't be beaten... I figure perch and barra would smash them

Free and abundant and if keep cool with water changes will keep for several days

Steve, mine get blood worm cubes and little sinker pellets which they devour while the goldfish are concentrating on the flakes at the surface. Otherwise they don't get a look in.

The ones I got from Mon get bloodworms, algae discs and tropical flakes/pellets (they are in the tropical aquarium atm). They love the worms but they will also come to the surface and eat the pellets. Must get around to trying egg and some other things like that.
