I'm still doing pricing and research before setting up my IBC CHIFT PIST set up and visited Woodvale Koi and Lilly farm on the weekend.
They are using a mixture of Zeolite and Spongelite in their grow beds, which are very shallow (around 100mm) and because of the porosity and wicking action of the stuff they run low but continuous flow.
Has anyone else experimented with Zeolite and Sponglite mixed Grow beds and if so what where the results? I know Zeolite can be used to remove ammonia from the water but does it get broken down to nitrates once its captured?
The staff member i talked to was very helpful and recommended using this mix instead of expanded clay. This could be just because thats what they have in stock and are trying to make a sale
Anyway she gave me a pamphlet on the stuff by published by the water board and a company called http://www.zeowest.com there is not much info on the page though!
