This is my first time growing fish, so I am a still learning. We have about 30 goldfish in a 800 gallon tank (700 gallons of water) it is a blue tank on a circulating auqaculture system. We just got up and running with sprouted plants in the beds. Its been up for about 4 weeks. We have not seen a spike in ammonia yet. But my husband is concerned with black speckels on the bottoom of the tank. I think it might be fish waste but I'm not sure. Is this somthing I should be concerned about? I do not see any black sponts on the fish just black specks on the bottom I have lost a couple of fish but again its a new system and we are trying to find out balance. Having ph problems and I think we have fixed the temp issues. Any suggestions or words or wisdom would be appreciated.

I think you need to describe your system, include a few Picture's..

What is the water temp.. In Colder conditions, the bacteria can be inhibited by temperature..

How big is the pump..?

The problem might be with the setup but you should be able to provide with the proper readings first just before we could rule out anything that would be close to bacteria living freely on your tank.

In as much as you watch them over and provide the necessary stuff to keep them away, there are just certain conditions by which they still thrive on. And what you have now may just be very well what they are comfortable with.

black specs? Pictures would help... Even better might be scrapping/wiping some off the bottom and taking a close-up picture of that. Microscope pic even better :) You get the idea...
