Depends if you're looking to buy them or find them in a creek, King.

The big aquarium/pet shop on Gt Eastern Hwy in Midland (just west of Bunnings) has them, but they're $8 each

If you're looking to find them yourself, that may be harder. There is a site that records sightings, I think it's run out of Murdoch http://www.musselwatchwa.com/ .

If you are thinking of putting them in your AP I am pretty sure there have been a few who have tried it only to find they end up with pipes filled with little ones after some time which leads to blockages and overflows.

Velesunio Ambiguus are a still water mussel which does not attach themselves to anything.

This is different to the american mussels which are the ones clogging up the pipes.

Have a read of the 20 page thread on freshwater mussels....

Most suppliers are out of them at the moment.

Yeah, different species there I think Burnsy. Nocky had one of the Aussie (not the WA one) ones for a few years and no problems.

Yes aquarium shops are rather expensive for mussels. Trying to remember the name of the place over east that sells them, "something blue" I think for memory?

Those from the east of Nocky should know.

I've just ordered from this guy...

Brenton Campion
http://www.crayfreshyabbies.com/damyabbies.html

$40 per 100 yabbies, or $130 for a box of 350 yabbies
$40/50 mussels, $60/100 mussels, $100/200 mussels, $130/300 mussels, $150/400 mussels
$40 delivery to VIC

Bit hard to get hold of, so been doing it via emails...

Awaiting delivery of 300 mussels and 100 yabbies. So not someone I can recommend at the moment. Not until I receive my order successfully anyways.

There is also
http://charas.com.au/
$2 each for 70mm mussels, $1 for 30mm mussels
$0.45 per yabbie 50mm

Yeah, they are.

The mussels from over there are a different variety to the native ones here.

There may be no need, RB. There's a thread over at PCS discussing this very issue. Basically check any fresh water stream with a sandy bank (ie. Canning River).

Check it out HERE!

I don't know that it's a good idea for people to go and take them from the wild, especially when the link CD gave says that they are....

Plus it's possibly illegal to collect them from the wild. Better to buy in a few cultured ones if at all possible.
