I was at the local pet store and noticed they had Barramundi - Lates calcarifer for sale. I couldn't resist. I bought one to go in with my Black Bream. He is about 12-14 cms. Not the prettiest barra, but a nice fish all the same... It went in on Friday afternoon and seems to settling in fine. It took a while to get used to the 'piranhas' but has worked out its place in the pecking order. If anyone hasn't seen these guys eat...WOW! They are fast and their mouths open up and the feeder fish basically disappears. So far he has only eaten the live foods (gambusia, swordtail) he is not sure what the bloodworms and brineshimp are... probably too small and not active enough... Heres a pic:

Tim, How big is that bloody aquarium......or am I looking at a printed background. Either way, it certainly makes photographing fish an easier job. Gary |

you will enjoy having him TimC, Just remember as he gets bigger other fish around him may just DISAPPEAR. Once he is settled in and feeding run your pinkie finger down the tank, mine used to follow and try to eat it. Good luck with him. |

That's a background, see where the rocks just stop. Cool fish. I have some fish that swallow guppies in a snap, most amusing. |

Gary, it is only 180 x 45 x 45 cm. The backdrop is a printed image. The barramundi are pretty dosile untill food time.... |

Mine are downright boring at any other than feed time, unlike the silvers which never seem to stop LOL |

Went to check the ponds, had a dead goldfish (run in with pump). Fed him to the 'piranhas'. The barra spotted it first (2-3 secs) and whack, gone! Little orange and white tail sticking out of its mouth. It will keep him happy while he digests that one. |

Nice looking Barra... Are you going to keep him in there for good? What sort of aeration do you have in that tank? |

AM, I will keep in in there until he gets too big. There is a 80 L sump under the tank, two aerators in there, before and after the filters. The water coming from the overflow box is pulling a lot of air down with it, it is like a dishwasher down there. |

I'm thinking the word piranhas was used figuratively as in TimC has very hungry fish? |
