I pulled one of my Silver Perch up a few weeks ago using a fine-mesh landing net and held it with a cloth while I put it on the scales and measured him up.

Is there a better way? What method(s) do you guys use to measure, weigh up and return your fish back to the tank?

If they are small I put them in a bucket of water, ad weigh the difference, if big I net them and put the whole net on a hook scale, and weight the difference fish/nofish

If you have to use a cloth, gloves, or even your hand... make sure you wet them first...

Just use human bathroom scales, net the fish and stand on the scales, then return the fish and then stand on the scales again record the difference. However...
If you are planning on returning the fish to the tank, then your wieghing them just out of curiousity. I wouldn't bother since you are unneccessarily stressing your fish. If they look big enough to eat then pull some out, kill them then weigh them before gutting and cleaning them.

We use a hanging scale like FB suggested, net the fish then hang the net from the scales, this gives minimum stress to the fish as it stays in the net and can be returned quickly to the water from the same net.

The of course you weigh the net... Or with most scales you can 0 it out with the net before hand.
