Hello to all

Has anybody had any luck sourcing Barra Finglings, approx 100mm or greater here in Perth?

We are struggling to find the same so we may go with Silver Perch instead.

Regards

I know that Tony Bart from Challenger will be wanting to sell the barra he has taken through the winter. They have some good weight on them. Just need to finish them off over summer.

Perhaps drop him and email Tony.Bart@challenger.wa.edu.au

Don't bother when
I last called they were sold out and they are usually too small anyway. Try golden ponds on mundijong road

I was there two days ago and Tony has a few hundred to go from the Murdoch system he is shutting down for the holidays. Pretty sure he has not sold them yet.

They looked like this on the weekend....

Thanks for the messages.

We'll contact Tony today and see if he has any of a reasonable size left.

Golden Ponds had some 3-4 cm for $2.50 ea (too small) or 15-20cm at $12 ea.

The concern is that at $12 ea and if we lose a few then it starts getting expensive.

Go silvers, they are just as much fun as the barra in the warm weather and they will last all year round.... :)

Yeah, but bragging about growing out barramundi in your backyard goes better than growing out silvers in your backyard...

Has anyone tried Broome TAFE? I recall from 1-2 years back that Broome TAFE does have a barra program, much like Fremantle TAFE...

Oh I don't know, I think that going one step above that in bragging rights is when you say ... "yeah yeah, done barra, they're boring, it's much nicer having GIANT SP that are over 2kg.... " :D

ok ok they are 6 or more years old.......

EB, forget about trying to talk out of this one. Everyone new to AP that I speak to about growing out fishes in my backyard.

When I say, rainbow trouts... (their expression -- yes...)

When I say, silver perchs ... (their expression --- yes...)

When I say, barramundi ... (their expression / words --- far out) and that usually gets them asking more about AP...

Looks like we have had some luck with Barramundi.

From Challenger Tafe we can get som 200 grammers for $3 ea that sounds like a good deal and will be ready next week (thanks Earthengroup for the tip). So we have order 20 initially, will see how they settle in (as we kept losing trout prior to harvesting last weekend, even after thinning, maybe the warm weather) and then get 20 more a week or 2 after that.
