Been chasing some silver perch in Perth, and found some today. Guy from Gingin, Trevor 0402 725 337. He delivers and I got 50 odd overwintered silver perch. I thought the price was good - and the perch were more advanced than the ones I got from Golden Ponds last time. Seems like another great place to get Silver Perch, and he also seems to have lots. Heard the same thing this afternoon from someone who rang the shop, they sound good and fairly cheap.. Though be careful about recommendations of stocking levels from him, the guy today had built a 1 IBC system, about 700-800L fish tank and the top as a growbed, 200-300L and rang him wanting 10-15 perch. He was talked into getting 50 perch, told that he needed that many fish to power a system that size. Apart from that, it's good to have some more supplies.. |

6-10 inch @ $2... is a good price... Most people selling fish that size are applying the kilo weight rate... |

Haha, well before I found him I was struggling to find silver perch that would be available before Jan/Feb - or not costing $5 each! So could be a good idea, but by the sounds of it he has a lot - and he seems willing to deliver to the metro - so you might find people go to the source |

They'll start nibbling about 15/16 degrees... but wont really feed steadily until 18+... 22 and above and they'll feed avidly... |

I noticed them becoming more active around FT temp of 20deg FB. Its hard to tell how much they are eating so I am still feeding lightly. They have just sat in one corner together for most of the winter but they are now swimming around the FT most of the day. The missus throws in a lot of bugs and worms and things too while Im at work. They are soooo boring compared to trout but must admit I am more fond of them as they have been with me for some time, the bigger ones even have names....

RupertofOZ wrote: 6-10 inch @ $2.50 is a good price... Most people selling fish that size are applying the kilo weight rate... If you can buy a 10 inch fish for $2.50 why would you buy a fingerling?? I doubt that they are this big at that price, a 10 inch perch can be 300gms and if you are selling them at $18 kilo it works out a lot more than $2.50 ea for a fish of that size. |
