It could be a form of Epistylis. Its a common organism amoungst fresh water crayfish.

No matter what it is it will most probably be due to a water quality issue. Although bacteria and nutrient density is a goal in AP for plant growth it isn't a favoured environment for marron.

There is a number of things that may have brought it on like low DO, system cycle (nutrient load), warmer weather, fish stocking densities or plant harvest just to name a few.

Hope this helps Simo.

I am certainly no expert however a conversation recently with the Troutman was about issues arising with marron. He mentioned that the marron tended to suffer in a tank and one of the possible issues was with the marron being on PVC plastic all the time. He mentioned their need to be exposed to fresh air and how his marron would regularly "sun" themselves around the edge of the dam. He also said this continual contact with plastic may cause lesions and some success was had with put river rocks in the tank and enabling the marron to climb out onto rocks placed within the tank.

That is the extent of my understanding. :dontknow: May be worth giving Gavin a call and asking what he thinks.
