Has anyone tried raising shrimp in their system? This is something that I want to try once we move to a larger system. It looks like someone has worked out how to get large yields here: http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-09-shr ... world.html Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk |

I haven't tried yet but will give it a go and report back. They are talking 25kg in 1 cubic meter of water? that kinda biomass ratio has been achieved with trout in an IBC before and they are talking about 24/7 monitoring which is necessary for such a load. Trying to raise 10-20x500g shrimp in an IBC first would be a good start. I would love to have the experience and knowledge of 50 years in the aquaculture industry. The "patent pending feed" is probably key here. With the right feed, you may be able to give a crustacean the right amount of calcium and protean but without it, they could end up like all my yabbies and not moult properly and growth rates can be slow. |

Keep in mind that their 1000L of water was only 5-7 inches deep, big raceways for shrimp rather than deep IBC tanks.. Quote: We’re able to produce jumbo size shrimp, each weighing 1.1 ounces, known as U15 shrimp, which gives us world record production of up to 25 kilograms of shrimp per cubic meter of water using either zero water exchange and/or recirculating water 1.1 ounces doesn;t sound that big for shrimp I didn't think...

U15 is a decent size prawn , it refers to theer being under 15 prawns to the pound . Our biggest grade here (im a comm prawn fisher ) is u10 which are massive . |

i might've meen thinking pounds instead of ounces... hmm 1.1 pound shrimp?? well if they have raceways to keep just a few shrimp in 1000l of water then it sounds very plausible. I have read that crowding shrimp can cause problems with fighting so maybe they had a tray each?? |
