Any of you guys growing baby yabbies getting a thinning of numbers??
I moved around 80 odd juvenile marron into a separate tank about 2 weeks ago and now I only have 31 left!!! Do juvenile marron eat each other like their parents would of or are these guys doing a houdini on me and escaping somehow?

They are excellent climbers, and burrowers...

The tanks covered in shade cloth so it definately wasnt birds. Can they climb up the side of a poly tank??

I'm quite sure they can, if they are cannabilising each other there will be multiple injuries among the remainder.

The local frehwater crays require a special tank lip to keep them in like eels need.

I thought they only tried to escape when they got older, but I haven't got any crustaceans so really can't help further

Maybe you should contact an expert and ask them. How about Crusty ;-)

Hi all,

I'm back (1042 new posts - phew) - been busy with work and Xmas and holidaying in the beautiful South West of W.A., near C1's place in fact.

I got lots of nice Xmas surprises in the way of baby marron and yabbies (I'll update my system threads soon with details), but I thought I'd put my 2 bob in quickly because I've been caring for lots of little 'Cherax' myself these past 3 weeks.

I have both baby Yabbies (4mm to 15mm) and Marron (7mm to 20mm) in two indoor tanks, and have large enough holes for them to escape, but none have seemes interested in venturing that far upwards. There are air hoses trailing out of the water that would be easy enough to climb, but I suspect that they are a little small to try it just yet. On an interesting note, the last berried female that I had in the yabby aquarium escaped just after she laid her eggs, we found her the next morning in the kitchen next to the cupboards where the kettle is (yes, the kettle was full of water) :)

I haven't found cannabilism to be a problem just yet, but like the escaping, I imagine I have all that ahead of me when they get a bit larger.

I'm onto them. The buggers have been sneaking out through the water exit pipe in the tank. I just put some shadecloth around it so hopefully at next count the losses wont be so great.

Cheers, I have a day off tomorrow (yay) so I'll charge the camera and update my threads and hopefully get some good pics posted of the littleuns.

They're sooo cute (in their own way)... :)
