I am very close to harvesting my first Barra and am considering purging and salting prior to harvesting my fish. I was thinking of catching two fish and putting them in a separate tank with clean salt water. This would then hopefully give the fish a good clean fresh taste. What are others thoughts on this, what do you folks do? What ratio of salt should should I use for this and for how long? Thanks Wal and the tribe P.S. It's been a glorious 33 deg here in the Pilbara... |

don't get too fussy about it all .......KISS... maybe just cut a bit of feed to the tank in the comming days, to cut the gut crapola out a bit |

We have tried the purging with salt process, and compared the results at an early forum get together a few years ago. The consensus was that there was very little difference in the taste and for the effort I haven't bothered since. One of the best stories I hear was when Monya purged his fish in the bathtub for a few days with an aerator. "twas a real talking point I imagine, wish I had a photo of that! |
