Can you be a bit more specific TT...please :D

e.g if you want to move fingerlings over a distance (friends place to fish tank), how many drops would be required to sedate them for a couple of hours :?:

Les, I would have to check the label to be precise. We used half a dozen drops in 10lts. It knocked the 100gram silvers out pretty much straight away. The 300 gram sleepys took a few minutes but they are fairly docile anyway. The whole idea with manual weighing/grading is get it done quick, then back into their recovery water with mucho air.(They look dead and recover as good as new in 2-3 minutes.)Don't think I would be looking to sedate them for a couple hours. My suggestion would be a portable battery connected to some airstones.

How many fish, what species and what weight Les? With plenty of air, you can fit a couple dozen 100gram fish in a 50lt tub and expect no worries. Need to be transported in their original water and have receiving water at similar parameters but I am sure you know this. If you are transporting babies, pick a number, just belt the air into them.

Just remembered when I went and got my original SP - needed to divide part of them with another person and we mixed some of his tank water in with the fish before distributing - thought it might be a good idea to use clove oil next time.

I had a battery bubbler with me and shoved that in the bag with the fish...didn't lose any but got a bout of itch (the fish did), so was thinking of ways to reduce stress in the future

Thanks TT

If I remember correctly.... most ammonia is produced by the fish gills as part of respiration....

Maybe the high oxygen and elevated respiration rates coming out of anethisitised state from the clove oil generates higher ammonia??
....

depends on the concentration and strength of the clove oil...to how many drops. Apparently batches of clove oil can vary slightly in the concentration of the active anaethetising ingredient...

20 micro Liters per Liter would be a maximum.

A single drop formed by an eye dropper ranges from 25 to 50 microliters.

half a dozen drops in 10 liters works out. ;)

Lotta fish handling on Tuesday night. I finally get the infatuation with murray cod, they are a magnificent fish to look at, with a very high flesh/carcass ratio.

Weighed and measured 16mth old murrays, most close to a kilo and 35 cm in length. Also handled tandanus cats. They play dead when you handle/move them. Can't warm to them, ugly fish that appear to be an evolved eel stuck in a time warp. They do rise to food nicely in the tank but man, day ugly.
