This morning, we're down one more fish. Total still swimming is 129. The rest were very hungry this morning and swarmed all over the goldfish pellets, trying to carry them away. When they eat the big flakes, it's like watching someone inhale a king-size bedsheet.

It occurred to me overnight, that for the bags to burst, it really wouldn't take much at all. One good drop from chest height would do it. Maybe that's the reason the side of the box has 'DO NOT DROP' printed in large font on it.

They should tape the seams on the styrofoam box just in case the bags give out. Or just use better bags!

It's good to hear they are hungry!

I just spoke with Dan at Miami Aquaculture. He's going to bill us for only 125 fish, and will send an invoice when he knows the exact shipping charges. I'm very happy with that resolution.

Dave, you want your fishies? PM me, and let's figure out a good time.

Steve, I'll pack as you say, and just use Parcel Post (Standard slow shipping via US Postal Service). They'd come through better that way.

Monya,
Oh, it's so hard not to feed them every hour on the hour. They're so fun to watch. Right now, they are only getting breakfast and dinner. I am showing a trace of both ammonia and nitrite, so I've kicked up the pump cycles a bit, and am keeping all the duckweed in the Duckweed Detour rather than letting them snack on it. I'm doing daily water tests until my bacteria catches up. I'm also working hard to keep them warm enough. I had to put every aquarium heater I own in the tank to get through the night at 80F/25C. I'm adding some bubble wrap insulation around parts of the growbeds and tank, but I'm afraid my heating capacity is too small to get through winter. I've ordered a heavy duty heater that should resolve the problem.

Happy news - no dead fish at the bottom of the tank today! I'm seeing less flashing and some typical (for cichlids) pecking-order-rituals.
