do you have a record of all the feed you have fed them, so after the barra have all been eaten you can work out the Food Conversion Ratio, and compare yourself to the "professionals" that turn out a couple of tons of barra a week?

I think that would be interesting, to see if theres much difference between aquaculture and aquaponics FCR's

I imagine the pros are better at feeding their fish as I tend to get a bit lax at it. Its not that I dont feed my fish but I'm really not consistant on the amount and the time of day. Still waiting on EB to design a UAF (Universal Auto Feeder).

Yeah right..... It's called a hand John.... :) I'm not super consistant with my feeding, and I can only tell you how much I feed mine by the number of 25kg bags I use, and it's not many.....

yep, I know how much I have fed them by how much is left in the bags!

Last night I tested a fish on 2 days purge with no salt - perfect, so the first batch that I ate that were muddy I believe was mainly due to the high nitrates.

Stu - do you have biofiltration operating while you purge? I'm keen to purge one of my perch to finally see how they taste. I have plenty of recepticles I can put the fish in (would probably use a 200 litre job), but am not keen on having to set up biofiltration for it.

VB, in the bathtub I dug out about 25 litres of gravel from my big system and put into a bucket on autosyphon with continuous flow. In the vate where I am purging now, the 200 litre blue barrel has been on continuous flow sin ce day 1. I have never cleaned it out, just broke the syphon between the 2 tanks, and am using the blue barrel as it's biofilter. Water is staying srystal clear and has no odour. I have been doing about 50% water changes ocver the past couple of days.

Sounds like next weekend might be the time to setup one of my little tanks for purging then. Would do it this weekend, but am still sick as a dog.
