Hey Mattyoga, We generally don't go that far down. We did give Larkins bridge a crack last year but usually fish up near Barkers ford.

We fished from the Northcliffe bridge down to the Heartbreak trail area this time, plus we camped and fished down below the Barkers ford.

Did my first modification to my canoe.......Stubbie holders x 4 plus a few extra rod holders

Planning a 3 day trip in Oct/Nov if your interested ( be a bit warmer then )

I would normally go during the week but this trip is planned to fall on a weekend due to my brothers commitments. I'll catch up with him on Monday at the T2 when I fly out to organise dates.

We''re heading down in October during school holidays on the Friday morning the 11th and returning Sunday arvo the 13th. We plan on being down there around 8am, leaving home at 6am. At this stage we will be taking two canoes down. So look out Red fin....

G'day fellas- I just had a session on the red fin and managed about 30 between 15 and 30cm. What success have people had feeding them? I'm thinking about starting a maggot farm. Have had succes with my SP eating garden snails over the last few weeks too.

They love slugs snails and slaters,if the snails are big you may have to shell them.They also like yabbies ,marron small trout and gambusia and any grubs that you pick off your plants.They will love the maggots.I am interested in your maggot farm when you get it set up ,I have tried one but not real successful.

I just squash the snails so they sink
As for slaters some old carpet on the ground moistened regularly seems to keep them in good numbers.


Maggots... Daggy wool should work but if you can shoot a bunny they seem to attract Blowies like mad!

Well it turns out 32 degrees kills red fin , but 30 degrees (yesterday) doesn't.


:( at least they were big enough to eat

Caught these from harvey dam a while back on soft plastics near the submerged trees towards the back of the dam. Haven't tried any in my AP system before but had some in an aquarium once and they didn't want to eat anything.

Mine took 32 in the first heat wave but not 34 as in the second heat wave.Getting them to feed is a problem ,if you have them in with a few trout it helps .some grow quite well and others don't.I am tying two other options that are looking promising but a bit too early to start shouting yet.Believe it or not I still have some trout .It is a bit of a juggling act but only have to get another six weeks and it will be cooler.I can get plenty of redfin if anyone wants them.
