Tanks around 1000L will fall off in temperature fairly quickly... mine dropped back from 25 to 20 overnight once a front came through... mind you the air temp dropped from 35 to about 20 overnight...

The next 4-5 days were wet, 100% cloud cover, and about 18 degrees.... and the tank dropped back to around 16.... and took 3-4 days to get back up to around 18-19...

I believe you guys over west are due a front and cooler weather tomorrow... and past records would suggest that you might stay "reasonably cool" for another month yet...

I wouldn't panick just yet...

1, 31cm 475g
1,28.5cm 432g

well i guess i will just have to get the smoker out in the morning and keep my fingers crossed there's no more doing back stroke between now and then.

I shaded the plants as we only planted out last weekend and the seedlings would have been toasted in todays temps.
Also meant the growbed media did not contribute as much to heating the water.
I reached 22oC .

My temps still at around 26 and its 10 at night :-( Think it may be because my tank is buried most of the way and the ground temp is up abit. Think i may put a heap of ice in tonight to help bring it down overnight.

came home from a day out buying the girls some new frocks (left the pumps running all day) to find the fish chasing the return flow madly.

So then I did something dumb. Garlic Chives where covered in Aphids and it had been bugging me so I dug them up (big root ball).

1/2 hour later the bunch of fish started to go white side up. In the end pulled 25 out of the 140 in the 5000l tank and changed out 80% of the water. Trout appear happier now but going to have to keep an eye on them.

That all happened after 6pm, just getting back inside now.

Moral of the story, on a hot day dont do anything dumb like stir up the water....

yeah thanks Rupert, i have been trying to feed them as much as they will eat as i wanted to see if i could get them bigger than last year.

i just harvested another 3 that weren't going to make it, so that leaves me with 10.

this looks like the thread for me.

2000L tank with 1000L sump. Around 80 fish. Two floaters in the past 24hr.

The FT temp has gone up sharply to around 23C in the last day or so. The RW tanks we use to supply them are up around 20C.

Will chucking a few bottles of ice in daily do that much? How about rolling some shade cloth over the top of the clear plastic roof above the grow beds. The tanks are fairly shaded.

I think someone did the maths and you need around 10kg of ice per 1000 litres to drop the temp 1 degree c. I think this was without taking into account heating effects on the system. On hot days you'd probably need 20kg just to break even.
