Black Bream die at continuous temps below 12 degrees c.

100% mortality of Bream, all Perch are still alive.

Your just going to have to wait till the next round of Perch are ready :(

just to let you know especially you guys here in W.A. jades do stop eating in winter but they handle the cold rather well, they put so much fat on in the warmer months that they don't have to eat in the winter, i for one am hanging out for the day that they are available in large numbers here in the west
I am 20 minutes out east of Perth city by the way and my water temp gets down to 7 at times.
the only problem i have had in the colder months is iche or white spot and that affected my whole system and i lost 8 silver perch fingerling's and my biggest tandanus but i managed to pull my one and only Jade through, i had two jades but i lost one because it jumped out of the tank.

and i bought them as silvers but as they grew i thought something was different about theme and i only found out about jades through this site!

i have tried to attach a photo of my jade when it was sick with iche.

I just picked up 100 silver fingerlings from gigi today. The guy said he has lots of mature fish and still has some fingerlings left.

September is way too early for Barra unless you're willing to pay lots to heat your system. Last year our water wasn't warm enough until early December.

Barra in december in perth - so then:
I have my trout in a 1000 litre tank outside, half covered. My one grow bed isnt covered.
From the experience that you perth guys have, when do you think I will have to take the trout out because of water temperatures??

Its a hard question to answer as it depends on how early summer arrives and the location of your system. In the average year you should be able to get them thru until sometime in November at least. I know of several people in the Perth hills who actually got their trout thru all of last summer!! In general though I would be keeping an eye on water temps and once you get to 24C I would be getting ready to harvest or be increasing my aeration. Once water temps get to 26 or 27C you will start to lose some fish depending on the time the water is at that temperature.

Could you please give me a phone number for the Gigi hatchery? I have looked in the phone book and can't find it.
Thanks for your help

Challenger Tafe has had Silver Perch spawning at the fremantle hatchery. This is the first time that we have tried to spawn Silver Perch as we normally deal with marine species. The broodstock were picked up from Golden Ponds and we injected them here at the tafe hatchery.
So far so good and we have about 800,000 larvae on the go. All the fingerlings have been ordered by one buyer ( Golden Ponds) and they want 1000,000 fingerlings.
I thought forum members may be interested in some pics of the process.

More photos. It takes about 30-35 hours for the Broodstock to spawn after being injected with HCG.

As I'm here every weekend if anyone is interested in a hatchery tour this saturday 7 November or sunday 8 November at 10 a.m. then send me a PM to find out more details. Tour will take about 45 minutes.
