Breeding season is usually when the weather warms up. Late 2009 is a possibility.

First spawning run for Geraldton and Jurien Bay is likely to be early to mid November, meaning fish from those farms would be available mid to late December.

Gidgegannup will likely be 2 to 3 weeks behind.

The 3 farms that I spoke to are increasing production for this years spawns.

Ok so are there any alternatives? Getting a bit late for trout.

Are there any other fish available in WA that can take the Perth temperatures all year round?

Goldfish. And they are great for keeping a system going between eating fish grow outs.

Fremantle TAFE are likely to have barramundi and black bream available next month. The outdoor temp will still be too cold here for the barra and would require heating until the water warms up and the trout are harvested, for those that have trout. Last year many people here kept trout in their systems almost until xmas as the water temp stayed mostly below about 23 degrees.
It is not about the date or the seasons, it is all about the water temperature. Keep track by testing with a floating thermometer.

 Goldfish make great treats when the barra are added to the tank.

Another fish with wide temperature tolerance is Golden perch ,, they are not goldfish crossed with Silver perch:)
Not sure if you guys are allowed them in WA.

Usually purchase Goldens already on pellets ,,

Jades , NO WAY they would make it through a Perth winter. I think they stop feeding around 18C and start going belly-up around 12C

Thats why you eat them before it gets cold, if they can be grown out fast enough. Have you had much success with goldens on pellets.

Personally NO ,, but I'll let you know after this summer.
Ausyfish sell goldens already on pellets.
Good point about the Jades , they do grow near TWICE as fast as Silvers ,, so yes with a reasonable size fingerling and starting early they could very well be grown to eating size before the cold sets in.

Let us know how you go with the goldens. I can get them locally but when I said about pellets they thought I was making a joke.

How well do black bream go in ap and will they last all year round? I have a 1000L tank for the short term fish like trout and barra but wanted something a little more permanent for the pool
