The name Silver cobbler was invented as a way to sell the product. ( Think Marrilyn Monroe ,, or Norma Jean ).
Most Aussies have difficulty thinking of a nice tasting catfish.
From what I read and what others have told me , they are VERY good eating.

Boris .....,Ok back to the Jade Perch .......... Think of WA 's Governemt resistance as an OPPORTUNITY not a head-ache. You get them in , desease free , you breed , you sell :)
That ,fat ,they talk about is , as you know, full of Omega 3's and in my opinion a VERY positive from a marketing view for this species.

Black bream ,, ahh what can I say ..... takes maybe 3-4 years to grow and a pain with desease's etc in AP type systems. Actually , I do believe , that I read that in the first ever Aquaponics book I purchased ,, perhaps written by someone very well known here :)

Black Bream.... Yes VERY slow growers, aggressive too. I only have three in a 6 foot tank and they sometimes fight and get sores. I permanently have a salt conc. of about 2-3ppt. The Barra doesn't mind and helps to keep them in line.

I have had the Black Bream over a year now, they have grown about 4-5 cm.they get the same food as the Barra which has quadrupled in size since I bought him. I am a bit concerned that if he gets too big he might try to eat the bream. I suppose if I was able to really feed them a lot of food then I may be able to grow them out faster...

As far as Jade Perch go. PM me and I will tell you where to get a few at a time... Like 25. Not cheap about $2.50 each for tiny little tackers. I would say you are a bit late to be putting small jades into the system this time of year though.

You may want to PM JefferyJ regarding the translocation license. He spent many hours on the phone to the fisheries. The general conclusion was that you can apply for it it, but you are 99.99% sure of it being rejected. Only a very few applications have been approved as the head honcho is very strict on imports...

Chappo - the omega 3 is what Im in it for - 4x as much as in a silver perch ! what a great fish !
At this stage , in this property , Im in NO position to breed fish , but I sure dont mind being the delivery point for everyones Jade Perch shipments , from the email response - the bigger , more pooled-together our shipments are , the better chance of getting approved . I dont mind a little extra work for getting what I want

Tim - apologies - didnt do a search before I asked the question about Bream , theyre definitely a no in my books now . Im not heating my water at all , so I dont want to be trying to push them over winter , plus wait that long for a feed
Im not intending to put Jade's in any time soon , the 2nd systems not even built .
I was just getting started and seeing what happens , I really want jades in my system this spring / summer , so I thought I's start chasing up on them now and hopefully have it all sorted in 4 months ( a bit ahead of schedule , most unlike me ) . Failing the application I may have to segment my new tank with shadecloth screens and stock it at 25 extra fish every few weeks ..
$2.50 each is still better than 30 bucks a fillet dead mercury ridden corpses that they flog at the local supermarket - 12 could die and I'd still break even
