Most of the time, about as exciting as a rock... As I recall rocks only get exciting when you heat them up... they seem to have that in common.

Dunno, I've heard rock soup is quite tasty, once you add:-

salt
pepper,
potatoes,
herbs,
onions,
carrots,
butter,
celery,
croutons
& a piece of meat.

I have a question . It may be directed more to the states though.
I have found that Anodonta Woodiana ( Chinese Giant mussel ) will multiply using Tilapia as a host fish.
The problem is : Does anyone know if they can legally be in the U.S. ?
I figured that if most the stuff here is from either Mexico or China then why not .

The next choice would be the green lipped mussel . I don't know what the host fish is though.?
I have tasted these and they are pretty good . they have a chewy part.

Another plus to this is; I could harvest the mussel for food and also sell cultured pearls.
Any ideas , am I thinking right on this ?

seems like Tilapia are not the only host for Anodonta Woodiana:

The introduction and spread of the Chinese pond mussel seems to be closely correlated with the introduction of the Grass Carp Ctenopharyngodon idella Valenciennes, 1844), the Prussian Carp Carassius auratus gibelio Bloch, 1783, the Silver Carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix (Valenciennes, 1844) and the Bighead
Carp Arstichthys nobilis Richardson, 1844 from China and other Far East countries into Serbian waters and neighboring regions.

the green lipped mussel seems to be a salt water mussel
as such it would probably not need a host

OK, I guess the ultimate question would be .
What mussel multiplies with a Tilapia and filters all the gunk out of my water?
While just lying there waiting to be eaten.

Looks like the Chinese mussel might be considered invasive.

It appears most US mussels are imports and invasive, but how invasive can they be in your tank or system? The problem you have is finding a mussel that will live in still water, the Aussie one we speak of here does exactly that, Rupert of OZ put these links early in the Thread
ftp://ftp-fc.sc.egov.usda.gov/WHMI/WEB/ ... sJan16.pdf

http://dnr.metrokc.gov/wlr/waterres/mussels/mussels.htm
but the thread was started by Looming Cactus so go back to page 1 and have a read, Cactus may be able to help you more

OK , I see what you mean .
I couldn't understand why the river mussels I got died.
I thought either the temps were too high or the ph was off.

Yes, It all makes sense now.

So, is the only supplier Aquablue ?
If it was in previous discussions, I missed it.

If you can't get them, and want river mussels to survive... you could create a shallow pseudo river on the return to your sump, and put them in there... this way lots of water will pass over them, maybe then they'd survive... but they wouldn't get near any fish for breeding :-( more's the pity.

amish aquablue is the only supplier of these mussels, they are native to New South Wales in Oz I don't think he could send them to the US, they only survive around 7 days out of water, air freight would be huge also, I will search around and see if I can find similar native to america

If all they need is some current, another pseudo-river option might be to have them in an open container under the water returning to the FT.

I ate a couple last night.
Whoever said they are tough & chewy doesn't know how to cook them.
Just threw them into a pot with a lid. I had just cooked some prawns in the pot and there was some flavour base in it, same as you'd do with normal mussels (Plus chilli of your liking once served).
Very soft flesh, mild flavour (hence the chilli).
