I suspected as much, Troutman, and that is why I sourced some eyed ova from the hatchery in early July. My plan was to become independent of you and your runt fish by hatching and rearing my own brood. Well, little Terry Trout lived the longest but he didn't even make it through to September before going fins up like his siblings before him.

Looks like I will be back for another order of fingerlings from you next year, after all. I may double my order to ten this time - just to increase my chances of getting one that isn't a runt!

SWMBO filleted them again and they are just as orange as last time. I have only been feeding them 50% 7mm and 50% 5mm pellets so they don't seem to need a pure diet of 7mm pellets to colour up the flesh.

Noice fish Curly!... :thumbright:

Have you tried leaving the head on?... I like to leave the head on any fish I'm going to cook whole, they cook better and don't dry out anywhere near as much.

Cheers!

I'm going to be honest - I'm a bit timid when it comes to killing them.

Whacking them over the head with the back of the knife and then just slicing the head off seems the neatest and least icky way of killing them. There's no way I'm sticking my fingers in it's gills and snapping its neck.

Are there any other ways that I should consider?
