That is what I'm thinking...unless I put in rainwater collection and/or gasoff tank. AP is not doable here.

Déjà,

I feel your pain, my first 3 mo old batch of chick's were all killed in 10 min, while i was just out of sight of them, by Travis my dog (Daddy to the current batch of puppys)
i had sat out with them running around outside of their coop every afternoon, and had just gotten most of them to take a grasshopper or other food from my hand, and a cupple of them would hop up on my knee to eat......

Don't give up, their are many ways to over come this prob, and make sure it cant happen any more, or limit it some way,

I have several ACE hardware brand water timers, that are based on pressure, so it's how many gal's of water flow through them vs a set time period, i had the same prob of water hoses being left on, soaker hoses left on, or hoses with a sprayer end bursting on a hot day, etc..... and then running till i find it, or remember to check on it......

these have been very good for limiting the amount of water that can flow out, when something happens, and something regularly happens......

i need to replace one, as it froze and busted this winter........
