Hello Dom,
when I first caught my redfin they were about sixty to eighty mm long and now they would be between 150 and 200 mm long .When I put them in the tank there were a lot of yabbies in there and now there are not very many left.I have been feeding them a small amount of pellets since they were put in there but in the last week they are eating a lot more pellets so I guess that is because they have eaten all the yabbies.I also feed them some mince meat and if I find any grubs on the plants they are fed to them also.
I have thirty in 1100 litres of water. We get them from a friends farm dam, they breed like flies and always over populate if they are not fished out.I also have tilapia but I am very disapointed with them as I have to heat them and they are hard to feed and they are not growing .It could that they are too inbred as I have noticed one other forum member is having the same problem and he thinks that is the problem.I also have four cobblers which are a catfish, there is one quite big one which is going to jump into the frying pan soon.

Hi Tiggar,
sorry it has been so long but I have only just noticed that you asked me a question. They(redfin) were about 60 mmlong when I put them in there and some would now be around 180 mm long but there are some which also have not grown a great amount. The biggest are quite wide now and it won't be long before one is in the frying pan. They will eat pellets if they are very hungry but they get gambusia in the summmer which I catch in the local stream, they will eat yabbies slugs snails and slaters. If I find any grubs on the plants I amuse myself by feeding them to the redfin as well. The catfish eat pellets but you never see them feeding .I intend to keep trying with both of them because they can handle the hot and cold temperature alright.I think you would be better off with trout as they are easy to feed they grow quick and it should not get too hot for them.Ours die in the hot weather.the cobbler and red fin are much better tasting fish.

Reddies are spawning around here at the moment so if I can find some small ones I might just try them in the shed aquarium, just for a hoot.

Yep, I reckon reddies are the finest eating freshwater fish I have had.
