I picked up the complete test kit described by S77 & Steve and tested my rainwater, which I have just used to fill a 2ft tank for goldfish in preparation of my larger tank arriving tomorrow.

The PH of the rainwater came out at 7.6, which I thought was a little high.

another avid aquarium owner, great to hear.

I don't think its so mauch that we have soft / acid water, its more that the nitrification process shift ph down over time. This is more niticable in an aquaponics environmnet due to the high stocking levels (and hence high nitrification load)
