Are they still going Don ? Wow ! How big are they now ??

:wave1: Hi Borby
our SPs have definately eased off the pellets but they love a feed of worms. We are still feeding about 2 teaspoons (Skrettings 3mm floating) morning and night plus they get the odd feed of worms and also, they seem to like Brahmi more than we do! :D
We initially fell victim to sinking pellets and will never use them again :upset:
I read in another post somewhere about the possibility of SP having different requirements during cooler weather. Lettuce, as I recall, was the go but we never have any left spare to feed the fish with. So I tried brahmi and it keeps disappearing :D

Hoping to make our first fishy harvest this weekend. There are a couple that look quite large under water but may be a different story when on dry land :dontknow:

They are still going good, there is only four big ones left the rest jumped into the frying pan.I still think that they grow faster than the silvers and you wouldn't eat a silver if you could get a redy. The others have to go very soon because if I put any small ones in the tank they disappear. They averaged around 400 to 500 grams.

Does anyone know if skrettings Nova feed will give pink flesh in trout, as I have heaps of 3mm and am feeding them with this at the moment.
I have a bag of 7mm Spectra but its way to big of a pellet to feed the small trout. Dunno what I was thinking getting pellets this big

My understanding is that Nova does not contain the astaxanthin required to colour the flesh. Spectra does contain this ingredient but the smallest pellet we get is 5mm. If you Particularly want a floting feed we start them on nova and move on to the Spectra as their little mouths become big enough to take the next pellet size.

Emailed skretting and got a very quick reply that , Only the Spectra FF 7.0mm has the required Asta/Cantha needed.
Guess I will have to crush the 7mm down somehow

Yet another reply from them (love their work)

"Some of the Vic Trout farms start the 7.0mm from approx. 280Grms fish, probably pushing it but if they are hungry they will go for it and they should colour up in approx. 8 weeks, assuming they are eating sufficient quanities."

Yea I bought the 7mm last year for that reason and just crushed it till they were big enough to eat it.

I reckon (but you know how things change) that I will keep feeding the 3mm nova and some of the 6mm Lauke in about a months time, as the lauke pellets are softer and I had smallish trout smashing them a couple of years ago, and then at the start of sept start trying the 7mm spectra.
 :?
