I'll fess up. My biggest ambition is for my kids to think it is the norm to eat fish out of tanks in your backyard.
They are more interested in playing in the garden and riding their bikes than watching telly, we don't have playstation and they get a bit of playschool and ABC kids and my girl goes crazy for her fairy videos if my wife needs to get something done.
It gives me immense pleasure to see them excited about the fish with me! Now I'm getting psyched up for plants, and it looks like the house we renovated is going under contract, so I will have a bit of time off soon YAY

Amen to that. My kids watch "Bananas", "Playschool" and "Thomas" and not much else. We watched "Finding Nemo" on comm tv the other night and they freaked when the ads came on... "make nemo come baaaackkk!"

This mornings readings:

ph 7.2
Ammonia .25
Nirtite .25
Nitrate 10

No water changes to day will test again tomorrow and re-asses. Fish seem happy as larry, very very hungry, some of them were attacking a piece of floating perlite this morning when I lifted the lid. I'm sure they're getting bigger

I some Barra now :bounce: - though I imagine it will also be very exciting when I am eventually in a position to get 100 or so perch fingerlings.

All your hard work is paying off Stu - well done.

Did you end up giving them a preventative salt treatment? Sounds like they are very healthy, so maybe it is not necessary. On the other hand - if ich shows itself after the fish are in the big tank, it may be hard to do anything about it :?

VB, I put 600 grams of salt into the 1350 or so litres. It seems to have buffered the ph well, it hasn't changed since I started the pump. I was going to put more in the following day, but they all look healthy and happy so I haven't. Hope this will be okay

Mate - hopefully it will be all good. It is not like you can't dose them in the big tank if necessary, will just need more salt and the ich like cycle will be longer due to you not having the increased temperature.

I reckon you shouldn't worry about it - I am probably just jaded (no pun intended) by my own experiences.

They remind me of vintage surf boards.

Monya, normal salt would not have buffered at all, but since you used sea salt, which is high in bi-carbonates then you're killing two birds (not fish :)) with one stone.
