John, The other option is to send you some fry in a couple more months if you pay the shipping. Regrettably, the shipping would be a little steep.

What's your math on a little steep? Assuming no first class seats for them heck it can't be too bad, could it?

What's your zip code, John? I'm 19350. My guess is between $50 and $100. It was about $100 up from Miami via Fedex overnight. I suppose I could try the heat packs if you want a breeding harem sooner, but I'll be smart and put the heat packs in their own individual bags!! They don't work so well when they get wet.

http://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home?cc ... Rates+Corp

btw, I assumed 3gal of water = 25 lbs. Could be a little less.

I'm very good at finding stuff on the web. Occupational hazzard.

Did you have to jump thru any hoops to import them in the first place Janet? Or were they considered ornamental?

They were absolutely no problem to bring in to PA. Basic tropical fish. I am restricted from releasing them into PA waterways, but that wasn't a consideration in whether Miami Aquaculture would ship them to me.

John,
You should probably check prices from Valmeyer. The shipping would be cheaper, and the price for the fish themselves is minimal. They would probably ship come May.

They were under 60F in minimal water with at least 6 ammonia.

I'm assuming thats when they arrived at your door? So we could consider that to be the LC50 of the ammonia level at least?
LC must stand for lethal concentration. OK anyway let me step back and see. It appears to me I may need an import permit from checking the DNR site for Iowa, and provide proof that they will not end up in the local waters. Their temp threshold doesn't seem to be enough to make the case. It would be different if I was just going to watch them swim and eat a few. Let me attempt to get my ducks in a row as the weather warms up a bit.
