Hello all! I have a relatively new aquaponics system, and put 25 4-6" yellow perch in last October. I already had a number of mosquito fish, pond snails, duckweed, and azolla.
So as winter came, obviously the fish metabolism slowed down and I haven't seen them since. I've been watching the water temperature and it's been between 62-65F depending on the day.
When should I start seeing the fish again? The pond did not freeze over the winter. I've tried running a net along the bottom but nothing comes up. It's a 5ft deep pond, 25ft long and 4ft wide.
Hoping they aren't all dead for some reason, but I'd feel better if this is normal behavior and I just need to wait until the water temp is higher. I'd at least like to be seeing my mosquito fish.
The water isn't clear enough for me to see down to the bottom yet.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
