I have heard that gambusia eggs can remain viable even when dried out for a long period of time. Could it be possible that the FT "Lisa & Wayne" are using has perviously contained Gambusia, of whom the eggs have been reanimated or have been transported from else where, eg by birds etc...?

Gambusia are live-bearers guys - the eggs hatch inside the female and they give birth to live, free-swimming young. There's no eggs as such, to dry out.

I don't doubt what you heard Simo, but it musta been a another sort of fish.

:dontknow: A neighbor fully drained their pond and let it dry for a week before refilling in an attempt to get rid of what they thought were gambusia, one month later the fish were back, maybe not gambusia then :dontknow:

Simo your not the only one that heard that story, I had some in my first pond many yrs ago I supplied from my local lake and I kept losing my fantails every time I put em in, I asked the aquarium shop and they told me the gambesia attack in groups like piranhas, and that I needed to empty the pond and scrub it thoroughly to make sure there are no eggs. weather its just the name of the fish that is wrong but the little things from the local lake will have to do.

gambusia are also called mosquitoe fish and they are a cold water variety of guppies. The females are twice the size of the males to allow for live birth and i find it hard to belive that anyone could mistake them for sp, thats like comparing a shark with a dolphin because they both have a dorsal fin. I want photos....
