That sort of defeats the whole idea of Aquaponics which is to conserve water and use less chemicals which have become so harmful to our planet.

In comparison to traditional dirt gardening in summer aquaponics still uses far less water

Yes of course that's true Ben, I used a lot of water this last season, because here in France we had a really bad dry spell. Our water does not come from reservoirs but from under the ground, so when the wells start to run dry you know you have a problem. It was this reason that I thought Aquaponics might just be the answer, but at the same time it had to be economic. I realise that there are many who practise this art on a hobby basis and cost is very secondary and of course that is really great. Its also a fact that here in France Aquaponics is very new and many have no idea what I am talking about.

Sourcing material is very difficult, in particul fish. I understand that Tilapia are restricted, with good reason I think, as many would just dump their excesses into the river. So I thought lets go for Trout as they are available at reasonable prices, but the cooling of the water would seem to be a big problem. Frozen plastic bottles I would think would be hard to control, maybe but I am not sure of that. It would not be too expensive as I have deep freezers for my Vegetables etc.

I suppose if I could find the Perche that Rob uses in Queensland they would be fine but as yet I am not finding them, so I may have forgo the Fish to eat and stick to gold fish or Koi.

I am sorry if in anyway I have messed this thread up, but I thought these people are using trout so they would give me some answers.
