Well, in aquaponics/aquaculture, the nuance for capturing fry is that the most likely trigger for the mother to end the brood and release the fry is at feeding time.

And in support, trying to catch a holding mother in an AP system would be a challenge as the mother would likely spit the eggs .. in a populated aquarium, I had to be very careful to net and strip QUICKLY..

I see that missing item is an unseen uTube. Video..
Ill try cut and paste... :thumbleft: gee ... it looks like you do have interesting fun..

I have done both methods and more... I stripped the eggs in the thread but the youtube video I let the tilapia go to term in the tank.

All the things you say about stripping eggs is true but in a backyard setting i dont see the point. If i have a breeding tank and strip eggs over the course of a summer i will have 5k-10k tilapia.. where would i put them? if you catch part of one spawn, say 100 tilapia, you are set for another year and that is if you have a big backyard system.

And also keep in mind i am phasing out tilpaia and transitioning completely to native fish that are temperature hardy to my location. I can leave them outdoors year round and they are better tasting fish.
