Smoked or one of the Japanese styles are my faviourite ways to eat them.

Since I came accross the Eel and cider recipe I haven't caught any to eat.

Cheers, Stu.

Googling around there is some nice looking recipes.

I thought I read they they are in the habit of escaping (jumping) out of fish tanks, still, I think Id try them in AP.

Here's an article I read a few years ago about the migration of eels to breed.

Not surprisingly they are like snakes. The power cord from a pump, a water inlet or a slo and they will be out of the tank when they feel like it.

Only thing I know about eels, which obviously isn't much I learned from http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/filthy-riches/ They got an Eeler on there that uses a weir to catch them. He also smokes eels by the hundreds and sells them in his own roadside stand. Looks like he sells out daily. He freezes them to make sliding the skins off look pretty easy.

Hi Charlie,

I am a Fisheries Inspector from the Qld Boating and Fisheries Patrol authorised under the Fisheries Act 1994 and additionally I am authorised in New South Wales as a Fisheries Inspector under the Fisheries Management Act 1994.

Please be advised that Eels are a regulated species in both States and as such size and bag imits apply.

Anyone found unlawfully injuring, killing or possessing a regulated species is liable for prosecution under the legislation of each State and significant penalties apply for such.

Fishers who unintentionally take a regulated fish must return the fish to the water without injury immediately.

Farmers do not have any right to kill regulated species and in my professional opinion, an eel that is capable of entering a yabby hole (ie small enough) would not be able to kill and consume the yabby that resides in it from a size point of view.

Please find attached links to the relevant information for each State to confirm the information above.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact me at Coby.Walker@daf.qld.gov.au

I like that this thread has come up, I want to look into eels for the cafe as they can become hire hand tamed to feeding and be a tourism spectacle.

+1 on buggers are hard to keep though, I had one as a kid in a fish tank setup and the bugger broke glass that was ratchet strapped down and got out. The tank was older then I am and was very thick too.
