Yup, read that article this morning .

It behooves everyone in the AP community, no matter where we are in the world, to think carefully before bringing in fish or plants from outside our local areas and heed the local regulations as they are there to protect the natural environment and our primary industries from invasive pests and diseases.

Okay, I will get off my soapbox now  . But I am stoked to finally use 'behooves' in a sentence :laughing3:

Sounds like a bit of a scare mongering article to me.

It's a fresh water fish (can survive for short periods in salt water), that's not currently in Australia, only found on two remote islands near papua new guinea. And for it to get here, it needs to catch a ride with a fishing boat (and correct me if I'm wrong but ships capable of travelling between the countries don't fish in fresh water). And you'd need at least two for them to reproduce

I'd be more worried about threats that are actually here, like carp in the Murray river or Tilapia taking over in Queensland.

And if the fishermen did catch some, and they weren't fish they could sell, they'd be going into our fish feed mills.
