All amphibians are protected in Victoria so you aren't allowed to catch (or release) any wild frogs, tadpoles or frog spawn.

You are allowed to keep some frogs without a permit if bought from reputable legal sources, although there are other frogs that do require a permit to keep.

However if you have a pond on your property they may just turn up, a friend currently has his former goldfish pond swarming with big fat tadpoles that turned up on their own.
