Seems like I'll be giving them a go... I'll just make sure to season them well and cook them thoroughly

Location: Perth hills.
We have the family over from the Gold Coast and the brother in law wanted to have a fish, this is the result of a 5 minute fish, he was pretty chuffed with this one.
The trout are still eating and swimming happily. Really should get them out before the end of the year so I can add them into this 2013 brag thread. :)
Heaps of fat in the fish surprised me considering they have been on rations for the last month. I'm assuming the orange sacks in the gut are roe, can anyone confirm this?
The flesh seems to be finally getting the orange colour too.

Yes, developing Roe. It will get to about 10 x that size when fully developed.

I found roe in some of my trout too, they were long cyclinders, but not quite as large those in Skeggley's pics.

Nice fish, Skeggley, and well done for managing to keep Rainbow Trout going through to this time of the year. Mine 'pulled up stumps' ten or so days ago, despite my efforts to push through to the new year. On top of that, none was within 200g of that one!

Thanks mate, I've got a sprinkler head on the outlet in the arvo and I also wet the shade cloth covering in the morning which has kept the temps <24c which seems to work while the humidity is low. I have about 6 left and with the advice received on this forum have been feeding minimally, the plants are suffering due to the lack of nutes though. Ph 7 all else 0 in both systems.

and the second last trout pulled out of the tank. Only one small one left. The heat has not slowed it down and it is a bugger trying to catch on its own.

Nice fish Skeggley. Congrats on getting trout through so late. We do have an advantage being in the hills!

My fish only had the beginnings of roe forming but last year almost all the fish had roe.

You will have to get that second tank it to grow a few silvers to keep the nitrates up over summer. Just remember it is only 3 and a bit months 'til trout season 2014!
