Not hot water - helloo! Trout do not enjoy water temperatures above 23 degrees.

If your trout are swimming around near the top of the water and appear sluggish, then they are not happy, so don't be thinking aah thats nice, we can pat the fish. I repeat they are not happy.
All too often we hear of fish deaths, and often it isn't a happy harvest story.

Trout do not enjoy warm water conditions and as usual some people are all to keen to get started with trout because it is autumn and because the fish shop is selling them now. If you go outside in Perth today, you will be amazed at just how warm it is. I can guarantee the beaches are probably pretty busy because it is great beach weather at 33 degrees.

If I can make one person stop and think long enough to let the temperatures drop, I'll be a happy vegemite. We have a fish tank in the shade that is sitting on 20 degrees and I am pretty sure that the others getting a little more sunlight would have water temps much higher than that.

Please take the fish requirements in to consideration and stock appropriately.

(What can you do if you have them and the water is warm? - Make sure there is plenty of moving water and aeration, stop feeding them and add ice, plus monitor their water temp and behaviour.)

This has been an O H and S community announcement!

You have to dry them really well though, even then they are pretty damn harsh.
