Thanks for the advice Steve, I will try to keep the nitrites under control. Why is using them for cycling frowned upon - animal cruelty?

I'm going to start introducing my system to people as my "fish killing machine".

Fish came up to feed yesterday! It might because the nitrites are falling (2->1->0.5ppm) or maybe because I am feeding them less, or because I reduced the pump cycling a bit during the day, but they were all really perky feeding last night. Check the nitrites again this morning - still 0.5ppm but I'm hopeful it will be cycled soon!
